2025 Breeding Stock Candidates
All the ram lambs have had birth weights, 60 day, 120 and 150 day weights collected. They all had two fecal egg counts taken, scrotal circumference measured and loin eye depth scanned. All this information was submitted to NSIP and went into the calculations for their EBVs.
We used 9 sires for 2025 lambs but we only picked ram lamb candidates out of 4 of them. You can view the detail of the sires on the Breeding Stock Page.
Below are pictures of all 13 candidates, clicking on the View button will take you to a page with more pictures and additional information about the ram lamb. All the rams have a shaved spot on their right sides, this was done in order to do loin eye scanning. Some have a lot of dirt that accumulated in the oil left over in their hair from scanning.
You can see a list of EBVs and some additional information for all the lambs for easier comparison all in one Excel sheet.
You can also see their EBVs, color coded to where their EBVs fall on the NSIP percentile ranking in SheepTools. You can sort the list by clicking on the individual EBV headings.
We have had multiple requests for rams that are good in parasite resistance as well as growth, so we focused on that while still maintaining adequate milk EBVs for the rams. As you can see there are some rams that excel in growth, others in parasite resistance. In general, the animals on our farm have EBVs for NLB that are far below average for the breed. This level of NLB EBVs allows us to maintain a 220% lambing rate in our adult ewes.
Please ask if there is any additional information that you would like about the candidates and we will be happy to provide that.
